In light of recent events on Wall St., it’s good to be reminded that our real treasure is not on this earth. Here is my little brother William singing an old hymn from the 17th century, “What Is the World To Me.” Think about the lyrics and ask yourself if it is true of you.
What Is the World to Me
By: Georg M. Pfefferkorn
What is the world to me
With all its vaunted pleasure
When you, and you alone,
Lord Jesus, are my treasure!
You only, dearest Lord,
My soul’s delight shall be;
You are my peace, my rest
What is the world to me!
The world seeks to be praised
And honored by the mighty
Yet never once reflects
That they are frail and flighty.
But what I truly prize
Above all things is he,
My Jesus, he alone.
What is the world to me!
The world seek after wealth
And all that mammon offers
Yet never is content
Though gold should fill its coffers.
I have a higher good,
Content with it I’ll be:
My Jesus is my wealth.
What is the world to me!
What is the world to me!
My Jesus is my treasure,
My life, my health, my wealth,
My friend, my love, my pleasure,
My joy, my crown, my all,
My bliss eternally.
Once more, then, I declare:
What is the world to me!

This was a joy to listen to, and makes me think and ask myself ‘is this where I am at’?
Thanks!

I would love to learn this hymn and teach it to my children! How thought- provoking, especially at this time, between Wall Street and Christmas! ‘Out of the mouths of babes God has ordained strength and praise…’

Jesus is our all in all no matter what the storms that rage

Well done young man! And the name of Jesus mentioned FOUR TIMES no less. I’ve been to places where at least four praise and worship songs are sung and the Lord Jesus’ name not mentioned ONCE.

Over 300 years old and still so relevant. Our Lord’s promises are as true today as they were then. Praise the Lord!
